Neutral Tones
Calm, soft, and breezy — the Swiss Pavilion invited stillness with a composition of grey shuttered walls, light curtains, and a tactile concrete floor, all housed beneath a generous tent-like canopy. It offered a space to pause and reflect: restrained, delicate, and quietly contemplative — the perfect retreat from the afternoon sun.
Upon entry, visitors are welcomed into a large tented enclosure, draped in white canvas and gently subdivided by a serieds of slightly elevated radial walls. Scattered moveable timber stumps offer informal seating, encouraging temporary moments of rest. This interior flows into an external courtyard where moveable white curtains and fixed partitions guide your path — all set against a striking backdrop of red brick laid in Flemish bond, with a solitary tree offering the final punctuation.
This pavilion stood out as one of our favourites for its clarity and restraint. While other pavilions shouted for attention — brash, busy, and a little noisy — the Swiss offering reminded us that staying neutral and letting the space do the talking often says the most. It worked like clockwork!
