Set on an exposed rural brownfield agricultural site near Glasgow, this striking new build will combine cutting-edge design with our usual commitment to sustainability.
Clad almost entirely in high-performance, weather-resistant black steel, the house will make a bold architectural statement – sitting subtly, yet confidently, in the surrounding landscape.
Thoughtfully designed to emphasise natural light and maximise rural views, we’ve incorporated a central double-height space – serving as the heart of the home. Electrically opening rooflights above will let fresh air and natural light flood the space, connecting to the outdoors with an airy, open feel beneath the soft, tactile plywood-lined ceiling.
Kuro will be our seventh certified Passivhaus build. Meticulously designed, it will – of course – ensure exceptional energy efficiency and minimal environmental impact.
The structure is currently being built using a prefabricated, naturally insulated timber frame – combining both sustainability and speed.
At the centre of the building is an innovative inner brick core, constructed from the remarkable K-BRIQ by Kenoteq. Made from nearly 100% recycled materials, K-BRIQ is the world’s most sustainable and low carbon brick – and this is one of the first times it’s been used in a residential building in Scotland.
This sustainable material will add a striking textural contrast to the rest of the modern interior, while contributing to the home’s thermal mass – helping to regulate indoor temperatures all year round.
We’ll be posting more about Kuro soon – head to our Instagram for regular updates.
